A "talk" with the principal by Bradley

I went to the Principal’s office. I was really nervous at first but …

… I wasn’t in trouble. We discussed which classes I’ll be going to this year. The Principal Mr Vester was pleased that I passed last year’s NCEA maths exams.

I got Achieved or better in the three maths subjects: Probability, Algebra and Calculus. I was proud of myself and so was Mr Vester.

Breaking the Ball Barrier by Bradley Edgewater3

On Tuesday the 11th of March, we went to the Tamaki Recreation Centre to watch the famous NZ Breakers. When we first entered the gym, there were a lot of students from other schools including Sommerville Special School sitting along the sides of the basketball court. The students were eagerly waiting for the basketball team to come in.

While we were waiting for the players to come, one of the people who organized the event picked a few volunteers to play a game. They were challenged to shoot a basketball into the hoop, if they got the ball through the hoop, they would win the ball. Among some of those picked were Aidan and Nathan, and they were very happy that they won.

When the NZ Breakers arrived, some of the students from other schools who were there were chosen to have a go at playing against the Breakers, including Allan and Fynn from our class. At the end of the games, despite losing against the players, the students were very happy they had played against a famous basketball team.

After playing the games against the Breakers, we played another game in which the students had to decide whether one of the Breakers players would either miss the basketball hoop or  manage to get the ball into the hoop.

At the end of the session, each student received a handbook that explained about the biography of the NZ Breakers. We were really excited when we were given a chance to get autographs signed by the players themselves.

It was a very memorable day for the students to watch the players up close and to have a taste of what it is like to play with a famous team.

Edgewater Seniors Learning a New Sport by Natasha

We learned to play Badminton in the gym. We first tried to balance the shuttlecock on the racquet. Then we practised holding the racquet down and hitting the shuttlecock towards the ceiling. I chose a partner and practised hitting the shuttlecock over the net. It was hard hitting the shuttlecock over the net, but I got it after a while.  We played who could hit the shuttlecock the furthest. Then we had a competition to play against  another team. Me and Allan played against Vikki and Brennan. Me and Allan won the game. I am getting good at Badminton and I can’t wait to play Badminton next week and it will be one of my favourite sports.
