Science in Hub 4 at Stonefields

Check out our presentation at school assembly. We decided to share all the amazing learning we have been doing in Science this term.

This term, we are all scientists at Hub 4. We are learning about solids, liquids, and gas. We are also learning about hot and cold. - Ruby

We learnt how to sign hot and cold. We also learnt the Maori words for hot (wera) and cold (makariri). - Cynthia and Blake

We have been doing lots of experiments, like making Rainbow Wizards Brew. Look at it bubble and spill out of the jar. - Rapture

We felt things that are hot and cold. We found out what would happen to an ice cube if we put it under the sun (it melted!). We also melted crayons using a hair dryer to make our hot and cold art. - Joseph.

We also made our own ice cream. It tastes just like the one we buy at the shops. - Kade

Frosty Winter Poem by Conor

Winter is frozen puddles.
Winter is snowy.
Winter is freezing.
Winter is rainy.
Winter is for having cups of tea.
Winter is for sitting by cosy fires.
Winter is for wearing dressing gowns.
Winter is for having warm showers.
Winter is for wearing slippers.
Winter is for cooking soups.

Our veggie patch by Anchorage Park Room 1

This week we went to our veggie patch with room 2 to plant some carrots, brussel sprouts and cauliflower. First we dug a trench for the carrot seeds. The seeds were in a paper ribbon so we put it in the trench and then covered them up. Next some people dug holes for the brussel sprouts and cauliflower plants and put them in and covered the bottom of them. At the end we put a bird net over our veggie patch so the birds don't eat our seeds or delicious vegetables.

Turning Pink by Tamaki 3

We decided to have a PINK DAY    to raise money for Breast cancer research. The money will go to clever doctors to find a way to fix this cancer.
We wrote notices and put them in the diary of every student at  Tamaki.
We asked the grown ups to wear pink too and they decided to have a pink morning tea as well. The idea spread and the Sommerville base school staff turned pink as well.

It turned out to be a great day. Jump jam looked amazing.

We went round the school and collected the money. Even the people in our office looked pink.

This is the Sommerville staff room.

This is the Tamaki campus staff room.

We will let you know how much money we raised when we have counted it all. There is still more to add to this pile.

Troy's Favourite Video Game

Click the recording below to hear Troy read is story. Troy has been learning to read with expression.

I played hundred of video games, my favorite is spelling bee on study ladder. This is a game about learning to spell some words within a short time. I can play with other children around the world. The best part about the game is I can learn new words every day. It is fun, because while playing, I can collect bonus points. In the end, I get certificates. Give the game a shot and I’m sure, in no time you’ll agree with me.

Look at us hard at work.

Keenen

Joseph
I draw my lunch. I draw rice and chicken.

Natasha
I liked the pictures that everyone drew of the different food. They were drawing healthy food. I thought everyone did a good job.

Michael
We were drawing our lunches. We used shading.

Lauren
I liked drawing the banana. It was awesome.

Brennan
We draw different foods. We use some shading and we look carefully at the details.

Aidan
We grabbed a piece of fruit out of our bag, took it to our desk and we tried to draw it's shape. We tried to shade it. I felt surprised because it was tricky to draw the shape of the fruit.

Bradley
Our attempts at still life looked really good for starters. I am surprised at how some people did some of the pictures.

Finn
I draw pictures of different kinds of food. I draw with the pencil. I coloured some of the food. My pictures look good.

Jordan
I found The still life art hard at first and the fruit on the chopping board was really hard for me but the art look alright now.

Working and playing hard by Anchorage Park Room 1

Today we wrote about the animals that we have been studying from the Savannah.  We used the smart board to find the right words or letters to match the sentence'.  The smart board only says our sentence when we press the full stop.

Later on we had 'Developmental' and we played with our new purple kinetic sand, built with Lego and practiced our fine motor skills linking up a barrel of monkeys. It was really fun! You can build up the sand then it starts to slowly collapse. We loved playing and watching it.

Visit to kelly Tarltons by Nikhil

20150512_102921.jpgOn Tuesday, we went to Kelly Tarltons to look, discover and enjoy ourselves. I went there with my friends and the teachers. There were sharks, penguins, star fishes, jelly fishes, and lot more. I saw a giant squid in a glass box. When it was time to see sting ray feeding we sat around the big tank and watch it. After that, we had our morning tea and went to see the sharks. It was scary to see them swimming around us.It was so fun going through the tunnel to see the penguins.

Room 10 and 11 celebrated Valentine's Day by making cards and treats for our loved ones.

First we covered our cards with masking tape to make the word "Love." Then we painted the card with pretty colours- red, pink and purple. We blinged the cards with some glitter. When it was dry we peeled off the tape...and Ta-daa... pretty Valentine's cards.

Then we got busy in the kitchen. We measured all the ingredients for our cookies very carefully. The fun part was rolling them in heart shaped sprinkles. Then we squashed them on the tray. Some of us did not like the gooey feeling... but when they were ready they were delicious.
