Disability Connect are delighted to announce the Disability Awareness Day will be held on 13th April 2019 from 10am-3pm at St Kentigern College, Pakuranga. This stallholder event is free to attend and showcases the various providers involved in providing support to people with disablilities . There will be performances from people with disabilties and different cultures. There will also be activities for children (e.g. balloon twisting, face painting).

Manaia and his Sommerville friends go on trips to explore our local community.
One of the best places we have been to is the Van Damm's Lagoon in Panmure.
Van Damm's is an awesome place and has so much wildlife and native plants.
I think everyone should check it out.

Transition Seminar
Post schooling options and process for students with a disability
Presented by Lisa Martin, Disability Connect
Disability Connect offers this seminar for students with a disability and/or their parents. Topics covered in this informal seminar are:
- Ministry of Education Transition Guidelines
- The process of ORS funding post school
- What happens to this funding post school?
- What types of vocational or day programmes are available?
- Options for non-ORS funded students
- Travel costs to Vocational Programmes
- Possible Work & Income supports for families
- Broad overview of Ministry of Health Disability Support Services
- Needs Assessment & Service Coordination during Transition stage
- Brief discussion re proposed MOH New Model and Individualised Funding (including Respite)
- What is Welfare Guardianship and what is it used for?
- Question and Answer time
An information pack including copy of the presentation will be given to each attendee. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available 15 mins before the seminar starts.

Disability Connect now charges $50 including GST for each professional attending (working in the disability sector) attending our seminars. This can be paid by cash, cheque (made out to our full organisation name Parent and Family Resource Centre Inc.) or direct debit. We do not accept credit card or Eftpos payments. We are happy to send an invoice at time of booking of a professional and payment is required prior to attendance. Refunds will only be given if you cancel and this must be made at least 24 hours prior to the seminar. Please phone to cancel.
