Learning about cultures at Owairoa
We dressed up in lavalavas and flowers and played kilikiti as part of our "Learning about cultures" Social Science topic. We had to hit the ball, then run to the wickets and back. When we were not using the bat we ran to get the ball or cheered for our team mates loudly

Koru by Anchorage Park 1
We have studied Maori culture for the past 2 weeks. We have made Koru pictures with printing, shells, playdoh and pipe cleaners. We have also done flax weaving, Maori stick games and explored poi, we found out about traditional clothes too. It has been so much fun!
We even made moko and ta moko masks and pictures of ourselves. India said she was putting koru shapes on hers. Good remembering India!
Next week we learn about Scottish culture, that's where Rose Anne is from.

Tiana'a Poi by Anchorage Park Room 1
We have looked at Kiwi culture in our Around the World project and now, since Tiana is part Maori, we are looking at Maori culture. It is very interesting and when she brought in her poi it was a perfect opportunity to watch some videos of dances with poi and to practice using some too. Annabelle and Lande quickly made up a few and we all got to practice and find out more about Tiana's cultural background. Tiana is so proud of her poi, they are beautiful Tiana!
We will also be doing lots more Maori art, Maori stick games and will be finding out all about the traditional clothes and music as well as making sure we all learn some new Te reo words or phrases.

Fun Day at Cricket by Matthew Edgewater 1 Satellite
On Thursday we went to Parnell to play cricket. I went with the class.
There were other people to help us. Nikhil and kyi-kyaw were in my group.
We did throwing first. I did very well.
Next thing was hit the ball and run.I did a big hit to the bush.
The last thing was catching the ball. It was fun throwing the ball high and catching it
(Matthew wrote this story with a staff member. He was able to recall the event)

Go Sophie Go! by Anchorage Park Room 2 Satellite
We went to the Confidence Course this morning to do our exercise. At the beginning
Sophie wanted to hold on tightly to an adult, when she moved along the balance beam.
Ten minutes later Sophie was moving along the balance beam by herself!
Well done Sophie! You can do it by yourself!
